After working for many other tri-state funeral homes over the years, Patrick A. Leonard, always had a dream of having his own facility. In the spring of 1999 he came across a piece of property on Rockdale Rd that was once the homestead of the Waller Family Farm.
With the help of some great contractors, family and friends the remodel and new construction of the old house began. During the construction we uncovered a hand carved board above the 3rd floor window facing east. The carving depicted a sunburst on an oval board. On the back of the board the original owner had signed and dated it "James Waller, 1847". We felt this was such a unique discovery so we duplicated it as our funeral home logo. We had stones made to custom match the sunburst and they are placed above each window of the funeral home. The funeral home was completed and opened to serve the tri-state area in October of 1999.
We made the facilities completely handicapped accessible, everything is on one floor including the family gathering area, with no stairs to deal with. We also have a large ample parking lot, and have tried to maintain a positive and pleasant first impression. We have kept the facilities bright, with a open entry way, large viewing rooms, and a family gathering area all on the main floor.
Part of the construction was also to incorporate Dubuque's first Crematory. In 2000 we completed the project and began serving the cremation needs of the area.
In 2009 we improved our facilities for families by making our south side viewing room larger, adding on a new and larger family gathering area and we also incorporated a new arrangement room to meet with families.
