What kind of man are you when you are pushed to your limit? Are you ready to find out?

Here at Freshline, we push ourselves, our brothers, and our bikes to the limit. We do this because we know that the best experiences are seldom the easiest experiences, and that no good story is a smooth journey from A to Z. The wilder side of Freshline’s many worldwide expeditions mean that we need the right kind of men to ride with us, with good character and the willingness to help their fellow adventurers out. But we also need a baseline of riding abilities, bike maintenance, and various other hard skills.

Because Freshline has become increasingly popular, we realized that we would have to offer a great experience to the club’s prospects while also filtering out which men would be a good fit for future expeditions. This may sound elitist to some, but we mean no harm by it; we’ve just found ourselves in too many sticky situations to not be discerning about a man’s character and his skills if he’s going to ride with us.

And that’s why we created the Freshline Expedition Bootcamp. It is a worthy expedition in its own right — even for men who don’t necessarily want to become members of the club. If you have always suspected you were made of sterner stuff than modern life has asked of you, and you want to ride the wilds of Namibia, meeting lions and elephants, traversing rough terrain, passing leadership challenges, and training in the safe and effective use of firearms, then this bootcamp is for you.

What exactly is the Freshline Expedition Bootcamp?

Put simply, the bootcamp is a 10-day motorbike expedition through one of the harshest regions on Earth: the wilds of Namibia. This test of endurance, skill, and character has been designed by ex-special forces veterans and a Navy Seal BUDS instructor. In many ways, this bootcamp is tougher than our expeditions, but it’s also more carefully planned, making sure everyone is in safe hands. We designed this bootcamp to teach you moto expedition skills and to test your resilience in the most difficult scenarios we could imagine. It has been designed to push you mentally and physically, preparing you to ride with Freshline anywhere on the planet. During bootcamp you can expect:

  • Encounters with wild animals (lions, elephants, buffalo, and more)
  • Bike maintenance lessons
  • Navigation lessons with map and compass (as they never run out of battery)
  • To ride a diverse range of terrain, including:
    • Sand
    • Rough and rocky
    • Gravel road
    • Paved curves
  • Physical training
  • Problem solving exercises
  • Wildlife handling
  • Team competitions
  • Self defence training
  • Leadership training and evaluation

Why we created the Freshline Expedition Bootcamp

We created it to prepare you for any challenges you may face on future moto expeditions, whether with the Freshline Club, or on your own. This is a standalone adventure as well as an entry assessment to the club.

Note: Not all riders will be eligible for Freshline expeditions at the end of bootcamp. You will be given feedback on your physical, mental, and emotional capabilities, and you may be asked to hone certain aspects before re-applying. Our assessment is fair, and the intention is not to dishearten but to always be honest.

Who is in involved in the Expedition Bootcamp?

The bootcamp was designed by a team of adventure riders and ex-military special forces to both thrill you and test the limits of your capabilities. This is a challenge, but we’ve made sure to include many exciting components to make it more than worth the effort and entry fee. With safari elements, firearms training, and a moto expedition through Namibia, we’re confident that no one will leave the bootcamp disappointed.

As teamwork is integral to Freshline, you will be placed in a group of 10 men. Collectively, you will go through bootcamp together. While your individual abilities are what counts, we will always appreciate prospects who look after their brothers. In fact, we often say that it’s the adventure that brings members to Freshline and that it’s the brotherhood that keeps them here.

At the end of bootcamp you will be evaluated by three parties:

  1. Yourself
  2. Your peers
  3. Your leaders

Based on these evaluations, you will be given a grading that determines your eligibility for future expeditions

When is the next bootcamp?

We have rolling dates for bootcamp starting in May 2021. This date appears to be quite safe at the minute, but with current travel restrictions during the pandemic, this could always change. It’s also worth noting that we offer a completion guarantee, which means that if/when any of our bootcamp dates are pushed back due to covid, they will still go ahead as soon as they can. So, if covid gets really bad and things get delayed, you will still get what you paid for. So there is no risk. We will be clear and upfront if there is any change in schedule.

Who are we looking for?

There’s no one type of guy that fits into Freshline as we have a diverse collection of members from a wide range of backgrounds. There are several qualities, however, that all of our members have in common…

  • Guys that value raw adventure that is unscripted, unplanned, and a bit on the wild side.
  • Guys who appreciate the support and camaraderie that come with being part of a brotherhood.
  • Guys that can ride well — or ride ‘scrappy’ as we like to say. If you grew up with an old farm dirt bike, then you have all the skills you need.
  • Guys who know that they improve when things get tough — especially when part of a team.
  • Guys that are looking for a challenge.
  • Explorers who are naturally curious to find out what’s around the next corner.

Who are we not looking for?

As we said earlier, Freshline is not elitist by nature. But we push ourselves to the limit and we’ve learned that we need a certain calibre of man on our expeditions. Here are some of the kinds of people we’re not looking for:

  • The solo rider who wants to do everything themselves.
  • Elite riders who are about one-upping the guys around them.
  • Bike snobs who will only ride the best, newest models.
  • Someone who gets grumpy when things get hard. If a bad situation gives you a bad attitude, then you won’t last long with us.
  • Men that want a fully planned itinerary. There are many days that start with us not knowing where we’re sleeping that night.

What does a Freshline expedition look like?

We collectively meet with the team at a rendezvous house in the given country. The first day is getting to know the team members you might not have met and we will be reviewing our goals and highlights for the route and voting on any decisions that need have yet to be decided.

Sometimes an exact destination is set for that day’s ride; sometimes it is decided based on progress. Often the destination is simply a waypoint on a map and the goal is just to collectively get there.Meals are taken when possible, but there are days when meals are postponed or need to be abandoned all together based on circ*mstance. Pack jerky.

Breakdowns happen, and we plan for them. What we can’t plan is when and where these breakdowns happen… It usually is in the worst spot possible, such in the heat of a desert, or during a monsoon, or through a river crossing. You are part of a team, though, so even if it’s not your bike that breaks down, you are expected to pitch in. We support each other at Freshline; there really is no other way to get through the challenging expeditions we embark on without supporting each other.

Every expedition has its own amazing experiences and stories, but they are never what you think they will be because the best stories are never planned and always arise out of a dark situation. This is why we need the right kinds of people for the job. We need guys who manage rather than moan; guys who know that the best experience is almost never the easiest experience. If you have any follow up questions for us, please feel free to get in touch. The real you is just one adventure away.
