My Favorite Cookies As a Child

When I was a kid, we would visit my Grandma every summer. She and gramps lived on a farm down south. It was always horribly hot and the mosquitos were big enough to carry you away. I never even noticed, as the eyes of a child only see the farm animals, the creeks to swim in and the delicious food my grandmother made for us……. especially the cookies. She made several different kinds, but molasses were always my favorite. (Though her pecan cookies ran a very close second)

I ran across the recipe in the cookbook of my mother when she passed. She never made them, but thank heaven, she had gotten the recipe from her mom. I thought it was lost forever, when my grandma died in the early 70’s. Try making these cookies, I guarantee, they will be your favorites too.

Dip the top of the ball into a bowl of sugar
Remove from sugar and place on lightly greased cookie sheet, sugared side up
Leave at least three inches between cookies as they spread while cooking

If you like soft cookies, bake 8 to 10 minutes, if you like them crisper, bake 10 to 15 minutes.
Tops should be evenly cracked and lightly browned.

The best recipes in the world are still the ones that were handed down to us through our moms and grandmothers. It’s important to keep these recipes alive. This looks like a delicious cookie recipe – I’m a cookie fiend myself. ;)
