  1. Bishop Amat (2-0) – The Lancers’ defense has allowed nine points in the first two games of the year. Now here comes big bad St. John Bosco to Kiefer. Paging Herb Brooks!

  1. Ayala (2-0) – Quality win over a very good Etiwanda team with Marquis Moore earning SB Line Southern California Athlete of the Week honors. They challenge for them is to not overlook a much better than looked Leuzinger team. Could they be on upset watch this week?

  1. Damien (1-1) – What an impressive win over Loyola on Friday. The Spartans’ run game is as good is it gets in the SGV (with the exception of Amat). Nice challenge against Pasadena on Thursday night. I make the Spartans the early favorite to win.

  1. La Serna (1-1) – No shame in the loss to a very good Warren team. They finally get some class relief and should have no trouble against Los Osos this week. Good to see that Jake Long is back on track.

  1. Pasadena (1-1) – We knew that they were sitting on a big game, and they delivered against Glendora last week. It’s the speed of the Bulldogs vs. the power of Damien. This game will not disappoint.

  1. Charter Oak (1-0) – We know that Richard Munoz will be fine at QB. We know that the running game will be there. But what’s up with giving up 400 yards rushing to Northview. Look for the defense to tighten up the loose strings against Glendora this week.

  1. St. Paul (2-0) – Love that fact that they are 2-0, but Huntington Park game is like an FCS win for College Football Power 5 conference team. They’ll get a serious challenge from St. Pius-X/St. Matthias this week at “The Pit.”

  1. Monrovia (2-0) – Had no trouble with nearby rival Arcadia last week. Tricky Thursday night affair against a El Rancho team that has been impressive the first two weeks of the season. Could the Wildcats be on upset watch?

  1. Bonita (1-1) – What is the saying, “What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas?” Well, we won’t go too much into their win last week. Should have another impressive win this week against winless La Salle.

  1. St. Francis (1-1) – The Golden Knights needed a patented Dean Herrington 2-minute drill to defeat Mira Costa. The story continues to be a defensive unit that gave up 48 points last week. That won’t work in Angelus League play.

  1. Northview (1-1) – No shame in loss to Charter Oak. Love the fact that the offensive line dominated the game. Now here comes rival South Hills and the Wing-T attack. Vikings must keep the Huskies offense off the field.

  1. Diamond Bar (2-0) – The second win of the season against Chino was very impressive as they held the Cowboys scoreless. They should have no trouble handling a Covina team that suffered an emotional loss to South Hills last week.

  1. Glendora (0-2) – Not used to see the Tartans get pushed around like they did last week. Rohrer one of the top coaches in the area, so he might treat Friday night’s “Mayor’s Cup” game against Charter Oak like a playoff game. A win on Friday and the Tartans season takes a turn for the better.

  1. La Habra (0-2) – Can’t be too hard on the Highlanders as they suffered losses to Amat and Upland. And yes, your favorite team would be 0-2 also if they have Lancers and Upland on their nonleague schedule. The sledding becomes much easier this week.

  1. La Mirada (1-1) – The was some fight in the Matadores last week as they pushed Yorba Linda pretty good for three quarters. Now here comes Troy Thomas, the bagpipes and Servite for an early season showed. Don’t dismiss the chances of LM here.

  1. Baldwin Park (2-0) – Without Ibis Aguilar on the sidelines due to COVID, the Braves had no trouble dispatching South El Monte. The next three weeks should be very enjoyable weeks for Braves fans. Don’t be surprised if BP is 5-0 in a couple of weeks.

  1. West Covina (1-1) – Zach Requena rushed for 200 yards in Bulldogs thumping of Los Altos. Now reason that the Bulldogs should be 5-1 heading into midseason showdown against Charter Oak.

  1. San Dimas (1-1) – That’s a quality loss against a good Lakewood team. Should be back on the winning beam this week with a matchup against Santa Fe.

  1. El Rancho (2-0) – If Ryan Vasquez continues to show the type of production that he showed last Friday (247 yards and 5 TDs), the Dons become a legitimate threat to La Serna for a Del Rio League title.

  1. Rio Hondo Prep (1-0) – Ryan McCulloch looked superb in season opening win over El Monte – rushing for 173 yards. Nice little trip to the high desert this week.

The rest of the area

21. Sonora (1-1)

22. South Hills (2-0)
